Autumn is my favourite time of the year.
I love the changing colours of the trees, the gorgeous sunny days, the cool and crisp air, the harvest bounty, and my most favourite day of the year… Halloween.
What’s not to love about Halloween? You get to dress up and take on a whole new persona, as well as stuffing yourself with candy.
I went trick-or-treating until I was something like 21, before succumbing to societal pressure – since it was probably getting a tad lame.
Now with the Dragon and the Tiger Princess in tow, I have renewed excuse to knock on doors for candy!
It has become somewhat of a tradition that us and our neighbour partners-in-candy, dress up as a theme. The first year we were felines, a knight and a public servant; the second year we were warriors of some sort, a Tiger Princess, a present and Si from duck dynasty; Last year we were Star Wars and a pumpkin. This year, unanimously we decided to be Pokémon characters, a police officer and a public servant.
The Pokémon cartoon series of the 1990s, which I largely ignored back then, has re-taken the world by storm.
For me, there’s no escaping this time, as Pokémon cards, Pokémon evolutionary knowledge and the very popular Pokémon Go game took over my household.
Our Pokémon even took over a gym for all of five seconds before getting kicked out.
Apparently Pokémons have taken over the school system. For a little while anyways. According to the Dragon, there was an official Pokémon trading center in the school yard until October when it was banished by the principal!
I even got suckered into watching the original Pokémon Indigo League cartoons, currently available on Netflix. I must admit that the show is actually quite good. What I really like about it, is that the main characters are not superhuman. In fact they’re totally clueless, and battles other equally clueless trainers, and didn’t always win. Which is a lot closer to reality than most shows these days.
So what Pokémon are you? And can you guess which Pokémon is each of us?
Even if you managed to escape Pokémon fever in the 90s and right now, it will get you in 20 years time, when it comes back in fashion again. Guaranteed. You will only realize then, that I am totally ahead of the curve.
